Introduction taken from our magazine.
“I would like to introduce myself to you through the pages of this magazine. My name is Sonia Blakesley and I am the new Probationary minister. I graduated from Glasgow University with a Bachelor of Divinity degree this summer. I have spent three years as a ‘Candidate Training for Ministry’ with the church of Scotland and have been on placement in Burnside Blairbeth Church in Rutherglen, Cranhill Church in Glasgow’s east end, and in the Tinto parishes in South Lanarkshire. My home was in Moffat but I now live in Chryston. I previously worked for the NHS in Dumfries and Galloway, and my home church is St Andrew’s Church of Scotland in Moffat. I have been involved there for the last 25 years, and have served as an elder for 15 years, including 5 years as Session Clerk. I have 2 daughters aged 23 and 21 years, and my hobbies are knitting, cross-stitch, reading and walking my dog, Mylo. I also enjoy Geocaching. I am hoping to get involved as much as I can in the life of Springfield Cambridge, and I would like to visit as many groups and organisations as I can. If you know of something going on which you think will be interesting for me or if there is something I can get involved in to help you, please let me know. It can take a while when you first arrive at a place to learn just what is going on, especially in somewhere that appears as busy as your church community. I am looking forward to the opportunities that lie ahead for me as I enter full-time ministry, and look forward to meeting you. Please say hello and introduce yourself to me. I may not remember everyone’s name but telling me something interesting or unusual about yourself will help lodge you into my memory bank.
May the peace of God go with you.
